Coeburn First Baptist Church (2012/1/16)

The First Baptist Church of Coeburn was organized as the Missionary Baptist Church of Guest’s Station in March 1881 by the Rev. OL Terry of the Clinch Valley Association. The organization took place with eight charter members in a log building. On August 8, 1896 the church called its first regular pastor, the Rev. JR Craft. He led the church to construct a place of worship on Grand Avenue in 1896 where the Church of God of Prophecy is presently located. In 1915 during the pastorate of the Rev. AB Brooks, it was decided to build a larger church in a more central part of town. In March 1917 work began on the new church. It was completed in less than a year at a cost of $34,000.
